Wednesday’s Words

WEDNESDAY'S

I decided to go back and look at the vocabulary list my Kindle builds as I look up words. I found the following zingers:

cicatriced (from cicatrix)the scar of a healed wound, as in “…the building was cicatriced with scaffolding…” (The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt)

pollarded: cut off the top and branches (of a tree) to encourage new growth at the top. (All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr)

aniline: a colorless oily liquid present in coal tar used in dyes, drugs, and plastics; historically, the basis of early synthetic dyes. (A Fall of Marigolds by Susan Meissner)

Do you recognize any of these words? Or are they new to you too?
